The Board of Lucas County Commissioners are in support of legislation that would give Ohioans the opportunity to register to vote online. Online voter registration is both more secure and cost effective. As the Board of Commissioners are tasked with the responsibility of funding the Lucas County Board of Elections, they are supportive of all efforts to cut costs in a responsible manner and to expand access to the ballot process for all Ohioans.
Nationally, online voter registration legislation has been passed in twenty-five states. Additionally, it has bipartisan support, would strengthen the security of Ohio’s voter rolls and make the registration process easier for all Ohioans, including our servicemen and women, citizens with disabilities, and young people.
In the United States, currently over half of all voters have the opportunity register to vote online. It is time that Ohio follows suit.
