Register Now for Foster Care/Adoption Training Classes

Lucas County Children Services (LCCS) welcoming adults interested in becoming foster or adoptive parents to attend its upcoming free training classes. These classes are scheduled at varying times to meet the needs of all interested members of the community.

* A Tuesday/Thursday session begins September 7, and runs through October 19. Those classes meet from 6 to 9 p.m.

* An all-day Saturday session begins October 2, and continues through November 20. These classes meet from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., and include two lesson topics each day.

Classes are held at the Lucas County Training Center, 705 Adams Street in downtown Toledo. To register for the free classes, which are required for anyone seeking to become a foster or adoptive parent, call 419-213-3336 or click the link below.

The agency is presently seeking the following types of families:

* Foster parents for infants with special medical needs
* Foster parents for groups of three or more brothers and sisters
* Foster parents for teens
* Foster parents for children of all ages requiring treatment foster care
* Adoptive families for teenagers
* Adoptive families for groups of three or more brothers and sisters
* Adoptive families for children of all ages in treatment foster care

Qualifying to be a foster or adoptive parent is easier than you think. You...

* Must be at least 18 years of age to adopt; 21 to become a foster parent
* Can be married or single
* Can own or rent your home
* Can work outside the home
* Don’t have to earn a lot of money, just enough to support yourself
* Need a safety inspection for your home
* Agree to a background check
* Receive free training
* Receive financial support, based on your child’s needs
