Lunch & Learns
Lunch & Learns are an opportunity to learn new health and nutrition information while eating your own healthy brown bag lunch with co workers.  Different topics are offered monthly at various departments such as "The Top 10 Exercise Myths," "Eating Healthy on a Budget" and "Portion Distortion."  Lunch & Learns are taught by the Health Coaches, local personal trainers, and health experts.

If your department is interested in hosting a lunch and learn about any health topic, contact the health coaches at 419-213-2088.

Expos & Fairs

Each year, the Health Coaches plan a health fair and a fitness expo for all Lucas County employees. The health fair promotes health and fitness concepts, inviting local vendors to participate. The 2012 health fair, held in the Conference and Learning Center, included cholesterol and glucose screenings, free flu shots, The Ohio State Extension Center skin cancer awareness and screening, St.Lukes nurses, The American Heart Association, The University of Toledo Recreation Center and many more!

The Fitness Expo is a time for local gyms and health clubs to offer information about their amenities to Lucas County employees. Some gyms offer discounts to Lucas County employees at this time. The 2011 fitness expo included Superfitness, Lifestyles for Ladies Only, University of Toledo Recreation Center, Heart and Soul, Zumba and others. The Health Coaches plan the fitness expo towards the beginning of each year, so people can start off on the right foot for their New Years resolutions!

If you have any questions regarding the health fair or fitness expo, contact the Health Coaches.

Health Screenings
Health Screenings provide Employees an opportunity to check their health, with simple tests such as blood pressure, weight, body fat percentage, body mass index (BMI), cholesterol (total and HDL), and blood glucose.  Knowing your numbers is important, and may help prevent future disease. [Fasting is not necessary for cholesterol readings.]

Check the Monthly Wellness Activity Calendar for upcoming health screenings.

Walking Program
The walking program is a free, simple and easy way to start moving.  Beginning in the Spring the Health Coaches provide free walking journals, tips and prizes to those who participate.  Walk whenever, wherever you would like.  Keeping a journal of your time and distance will help you stay on track.

Please join us throughout the spring in summer for "Hide A Health Coach Day".  This is a great opportunity to get out and walk, find a health coach, and receive a FREE prize.  In the past we have been found at the library, Fifth Third Field, Huntington Center and Imagination Station.

Onsite Exercise Classes
Onsite exercise classes are offered FREE to eligible employees and their dependents.  Meet up with co workers during your lunch hour or after work for a great workout.  Classes vary, but may include: Zumba, kickboxing, body sculpting, etc.  Class offerings, times, dates, and locations vary monthly.

Check out the Monthly Wellness Activity Calendar for this month's classes.

What is Zumba?
Zumba is a fun and effective workout.  Latin rhythms create a workout routine that you'll never forget.  The routines feature interval training sessions where fast and slow rhythms and resistance training are combined to tone and sculpt your body while burning fat.

What is Body Sculpting?
Body Sculpting is a light resistance workout.  Using your own body weight, exercises such as lunges, squats, sit ups, arm curls, and others are performed.  Attendees are welcome to bring light weights, but it is not required.
