Forfeitures
The Forfeiture Unit of the Lucas County Prosecutors Office enforces the Ohio forfeiture laws which allow law enforcement with probable cause to seize property used in or derived from the commission of felony criminal activity or, in the alternative, proceeds derived from or acquired from the commission of felony criminal activity.
The distribution and application of assets seized in a forfeiture are subject to the provisions of Ohio Revised Code Section 2981.
Forfeiture laws allow the government to seize property that is unlawful to possess, take instruments used for criminal activity out of circulation, remove the ability of criminals to profit from crime, and return property to victims. The end result is the removal of the incentive others may have to commit similar crimes and punishing offenders for their criminal activity.
