1. Have there been any changes to the Homestead Program?

Beginning in tax year 2014, Lucas County taxpayers applying for the Homestead Exemption will be subject to a means test. The Ohio Adjusted Gross Income needed to qualify for 2019 must be under $32,800.

2. What if I am a disabled veteran?

On June 12, 2014, Amended Substitute House Bill 85 was signed by the Governor of the State of Ohio. This amendment doubles the State's exemption for military men and women with a "100% service-connected total and permanent disability" certified by the federal government from $25,000 to $50,000. This amendment also removes the means test for qualifying veterans.

3. What are the qualifications to apply for Homestead?

1) You have to be at least 65 years old (anytime during the calendar year) or permanently or totally disabled.
2) If disabled, you are required to have your physician complete the certificate of disability form or submit a certificate from a state or federal agency.
3) Own and occupy your own home, or mobile home, or have ownership interest (land contract, lease options), as of January 1 of the application year.
4) Applicants for 2019 must have a TOTAL (applicant + spouse - not including social security) household income of no more than $32,800.

4. When is the deadline to apply?

The deadline to apply for Homestead is December 31, 2019 by 4:30p.m.
