Special Meeting Announcement:

Due to scheduling conflict, the Lucas SWCD Board will hold a special meeting at the District Office on Tuesday, December 20th at 9:00 AM - to replace its previously scheduled December monthly regular meeting that was scheduled for December 20th at 5:00 PM. HOLIDAY HOURS: The District Office will be closed starting at Noon on Friday, December 24th and will re-open at 8:00 AM on Tuesday, December 27th. The office will also be closed starting at Noon on Friday, December 30th and will re-open on Tuesday, January 3rd.

Milkweed for Monarchs!
A huge THANK YOU to everyone who collected milkweed pods for the Ohio Pollinator Habitat Initiative during September & October. The Lucas SWCD office drop site alone collected over three pallets full of pods to be processed at the Lucas County Correctional Treatment facility for planting in ODOT right-of-ways. This is estimated to be over 1 million milkweed seeds! Also, congratulations to Clay High School Agriculture & Environmental Technologies students who won the Toledo Blade's School Contest by collecting 2,148 pods

ODA Local Agricultural Easement Program:
The Black Swamp Conservancy will be hosting 4 meetings to discuss the Ohio Department of Agriculture's farmland preservation easement program. 

USDA CRP Program:
The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service is currently accepting applications for enrollment in the Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP) through February 3, 2017.

Great Lakes Restoration Initiative – Nutrient Reduction Program 2nd Round (GLRI-NRP) State Producer Agreement:
The second round of GLRI-NRP funding is now under way until all funds are allocated, first-come first-serve. The GLRI-NRP is a voluntary program that reimburses farmers to plant cover crops, install drainage management devices such as controlled drainage structures, soil testing, precision soil sampling with fertilizer placement and over-wintering cover crop system and manure storage facilities. Cropland enrolled must be approved by local SWCD technical staff and ODNR Division of Soil and Water Resources area engineers. Please refer to the current GLRI-NRP 2 Map for eligibility. Animal Waste Compost Facility:
The Blue Creek Compost Facility is open and accepting vegetarian animal waste: horse, chicken, rabbit manure, etc. by appointments focusing on Wednesday. Call 419-893-1966 for an appointment or more information. Cost to dump is $5 per cubic yard. A level pick up truck bed is two cubic yards.
